Kamari Wilson announced a top 4 of Florida State, Georgia, LSU and Texas A&M last week. And yet, by the time the 5-star safety made his college decision on ESPN2 on Wednesday, he wasn’t picking any of those schools.

Instead, Wilson opted to commit and sign with Florida, which made a successful late push to land 1 of the top defensive backs in the 2022 class. The Gators emerged as a contender this past weekend, when they hosted Wilson on an official visit.

At that point, Wilson expanded his list to include Florida, which hired Billy Napier to be its head coach on Nov. 28. That hiring has already paid dividends, considering the Gators were successful in their attempt to sway Wilson to Gainesville.

Wilson, who currently attends IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., is the No. 2 safety and No. 28 overall recruit in the 2022 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. He immediately became the best player in Florida’s class, as he is the only 5-star recruit who has committed to the school.

Wilson was among the top uncommitted recruits who hadn’t picked a school heading into the early signing period, a 72-hour window that began Wednesday.
