Keyontae Johnson has been through a great deal to get where he is now.

The star Florida forward collapsed on the court over 11 months ago during the Gators’ game against Florida State in Tallahassee on Dec. 12 and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Following a medically-induced coma, he rejoined the team just over 2 weeks later in a student coaching role and was later diagnosed with a non-COVID heart issue.

On Sunday, the Gators took on the Seminoles at the O’Connell Center, the teams’ first meeting since the Johnson incident. Four players hit double figures as Florida won 71-55.

Head coach Mike White addressed a celebratory Gator locker room, and while he noted the team still had things to “clean up”, he praised their effort to come away with the victory. After that came the presentation of the game ball, and there was only 1 person that would end up getting it on this particular day.

Johnson continues to be a presence on the Gators’ sideline despite not playing, and fans will certainly be looking for the day when he can make his return to the basketball court.
