Luke Del Rio shares inside info on Florida’s QB competition, names Feleipe Franks current leader
Former Gator quarterback Luke Del Rio has some inside knowledge regarding theย question every Florida fan has on their mind as training camp rages on from Gainesville: which quarterback will be the first to start in theย Dan Mullen era?
According to Del Rio, Feleipe Franks has taken the lead in the competition. His comments come after speaking with unnamed insiders within the program that haveย “seen it with their own eyes” down in Gainesville. This is interesting as many have suggested that Kyle Trask could be the starter come the season opener against Charleston on Sept. 1.
Del Rio made it clear that Mullen’s decision has not been made but it sounds like Franks has not only been the best, but the most consistent QB for the Gators during fall camp. The former Gator quarterback shared this news during a Monday Periscope video.
โSo Iโve talked to a couple of people within the team โ Iโll just say they have seen it with their own eyes; apparently, Feleipe Franks has pulled ahead by a little bit,” Del Rio said. “Not saying itโs over, not saying other guys arenโt getting reps. This guy just said heโs been the most consistent and heโs played the best so far. So looks like the Vegas odds were correct, in having him as the favorite.
โI asked, โWell, is Kyle Trask pushing him?โ He said, โYeah, still pushing him just Feleipe is being more consistent.โ I said, โWhat about Emory (Jones)?โ He said that Emory is playing like a freshman right now, super talented but makes stupid decisions sometimes.”
Based on those comments, Trask will need to make up ground during the second half of camp if he has any plans of starting in the opener.
