Florida fans clamoring for Treon Harris to start over Jeff Driskel won’t get their wish this weekend…sort of.

At his press conference on Monday afternoon, Florida Gators head coach Will Muschamp announced his intentions of playing both Driskel and Harris against Missouri this coming Saturday night.

“We’ll work through the week and see how things go,” Muschamp said about the UF quarterback situation. “Right now Jeff will probably start, but both of them will play.”

Driskel started the season as Florida’s first-string quarterback, but so far has endured a tumultuous season. Aside from just two games with more than 200 passing yards, Driskel’s 6-to-8 touchdown to interception ratio has been especially problematic. He’s thrown seven INTs in the last three games and all eight INTs against SEC opponents.

Harris, the true freshman quarterback, came on strong at the end of fall camp and beat out heralded freshman recruit Will Grier for the backup quarterback position. He’s only see time in two games this season, but his insertion as starting quarterback in the fourth quarter against Tennessee two weeks ago brought a renewed energy to a rather stagnant offense. Harris led the Gators to 10 unanswered points and a come-from-behind win in Neyland Stadium.

However, a sexual assault allegation that’s now been withdrawn forced Florida to suspend Harris at the beginning of last week. Because of the time missed during the week, he was inactive against LSU, a game he would have otherwise had an opportunity to beat Driskel outright for the starting quarterback spot.

As he returns to practice this week, Muschamp is looking forward to seeing how he responds after missing some time with the team, especially as a first-year player.

“Being a freshman, [missing time] would mean more than a third or fourth year player,” Muschamp said. “We’ll see it today. Today’s his first day back with us and we’re looking forward to seeing him play.”

“[Treon is a] guy that’s show the ability to make some plays, take the ball to the right spots and is accurate with his passes. He’s got a certain confidence about him,” Muschamp added. “He’s got a certain persona about himself. He’s a winner.”

Florida take on Missouri this Saturday night at 7 p.m. A loss for the Gators will likely knock them out of the SEC East race.
