Even though Florida coach Jim McElwain has led the Gators to two-straight SEC Championship Games, he doesn’t seem to have the support of the Florida administration.

As the Gators have taken a major step backward this year, ESPN host Paul Finebaum thinks McElwain’s job could be in jeopardy soon.

On Saturday morning’s SportsCenter, Finebaum said he could see a scenario in which a big loss to Georgia would spell the end of the McElwain era in Gainesville (via 247Sports):

“This is a bad marriage right now,” Finebaum said. “In my many years of covering college football, I’ve never not seen a university not stand up for a head coach who is seemingly in good shape. There’s a big division and it could get a lot worse with a bad loss today. Being here (Jacksonville) today, I couldn’t find a Florida fan who really believes in Jim McElwain.

“A loss today and maybe one or two more and it’s possible Jim McElwain, who has taken this team to two consecutive SEC Championship Games, could be on his way out.”

Avoiding a big loss to the No. 3 team in the country will be no easy task for McElwain’s crew, but falling to 3-4 won’t make anyone in the Florida administration happy.

Though the Gators should still qualify for a bowl game this year, it’s a tense time to be a Florida fan right now.
