Florida may be looking for a new head coach very soon, and names are beginning to surface as replacements for Jim McElwain.

Darren Heitner, an attorney who has reported various elements of McElwain’s job status throughout the day on Saturday, put out a list of possible coaching hires. Coaches at the helm of major upsets also appear to be popular.

Iowa State coach Matt Campbell, who has led his team to two top 10 upsets this season, including Saturday against TCU, is another possibility. The Cyclones are 6-2 and ranked No. 25. They earlier beat then-No. 3 Oklahoma and had an overtime near upset of Iowa. Syracuse coach Dino Babers, who earlier this year knocked off defending champion Clemson, is another option.

Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen, a one-time Florida offensive coordinator under Urban Meyer, was mentioned.

Central Florida coach Scott Frost, most notably tied to his alma mater of Nebraska, and Justin Fuente, in his second year at Virginia Tech and formerly at Memphis, was also a long shot.

Bob Stoops, the former Oklahoma coach who stepped down this summer, has repeatedly said he wouldn’t coach again. But Stoops would understand the Florida environment after he was a defensive coordinator there under Steve Spurrier.
