Florida is going the “young route,” as it plans to hire former Mississippi State graduate assistant Christian Robinson to coach its linebackers, a report from ESPN’s Edward Aschoff said.

Robinson is 27 years old, hence the “young” part.

The former Georgia linebacker played under new Gators defensive coordinator Todd Grantham when he was in Athens. Robinson played there from 2009 to 2012. Grantham was at UGA from 2010 through 2013.

Robinson started 17 games during his Georgia career, compiling 159 total tackles to go along with 4.5 career sacks.

He helped coach Mississippi State’s LBs last year with Grantham as the DC, Aschoff’s report noted. It makes sense that the up-and-coming coach would follow Mullen to Gainesville.

Robinson replaces Tim Skipper on the Gators’ staff.

Robinson is considered by some to be a “rising star” in the profession, Aschoff pointed out.

One SEC coach apparently told him of Robinson:

“In five years, everyone will be like ‘Wow,'” when it comes to his coaching ability.
