Arik Gilbert is facing a burglary charge following an overnight incident in Lancaster County, Nebraska.

Gilbert was arrested outside of SJ’s Liquor and Vape Shop in Lincoln. He was apprehended by officers while he carried a bag that contained $1,672 in vape products, Delta 8, cigars and lighters, Mitch Sherman of The Athletic reported. Sherman also reported that the store was closed at the time, and when officers arrived, a glass door had been shattered with cement chunks from the parking lot. Damage to the business was estimated at $650.

Gilbert, a former 5-star tight end recruit from Marietta, Georgia, began his career at LSU and transferred to Georgia after he briefly committed to Florida. He was awaiting word from the NCAA about his eligibility status for 2023.

Gilbert saw success in his 1st year at LSU where he was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team. Coming out of high school, he was considered by 247Sports the No. 5 recruit in the class of 2020, and made 35 catches for 368 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

He ultimately entered the transfer portal and landed closer to home at Georgia in 2021. But he didn’t play during his 1st season in Athens because of an undisclosed personal issue. In 2022, he played in just 3 games, totaling 2 catches for 16 yards and a touchdown against Vanderbilt.
