Carson Beck is looking into treatment options for an elbow injury as Georgia gears up for the College Football Playoff, the team announced Monday. Georgia’s official update states that there is no timetable for Beck’s return.
Beck was injured on the final play of the first half in UGA’s SEC Championship Game win over Texas. Gunner Stockton took over in the second half, with Beck only making a brief return for a handoff with Stockton unavailable.
On Monday, Georgia released an update on injuries to Beck and punter Brett Thorson. Thorson suffered a knee injury to his non-kicking leg and will undergo season-ending surgery.
Carson and Brett are both fierce competitors and extremely hard workers,” head coach Kirby Smart said in a released statement. “I’m confident they will attack their rehab with the same determination they exhibit in their daily habits. We will be here to support them every step of the way.
Beck is in his fifth season at Georgia and second as the starting quarterback. For the year, he is 290-of-448 passing (64.7% complete) for 3,485 yards (7.8 yards per attempt), 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He was 7-of-13 for 56 yards in the SEC title game.
Stockton is in his third year at UGA. In the Class of 2022, he was rated the No. 7 QB and No. 124 player overall on the 247Sports Composite. Stockton redshirted in 2022 and had seen limited playing time before leading the Dawgs to victory on Saturday. In the game, he was 12-of-16 passing for 71 yards with 1 interception.
By winning the SEC Championship, Georgia secured a first-round Playoff bye. The Dawgs will next play in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day against the winner of the Notre Dame-Indiana game. Beck’s status figures to be one of the most closely watched college football stories of the next few weeks.
