You know summer has arrived once the annual college football preview magazines begin to hit the shelves. With Athlon Sports and Lindy’s Sports both having published their 2018 editions, it is time for college football junkies to dive in for some summer reading.

The latest edition of the Athlon Sports magazine can be purchased online here, while the Lindy’s Sports magazine can be ordered here. Both magazines are also currently found at bookstores and newsstands.

One of the best sections of the magazines come from unnamed coaches that open up due to the anonymity they are promised. The quotes on Georgia this year are expectedly optimistic coming off such a fantastic season, and the comments below suggest the Bulldogs will once again run away with the division. It’s also interesting that both sections featured commentary on Justin Fields, suggesting the SEC is eager to find out just what Georgia has in its new five-star signal caller.

Here are some of the quotes provided regarding Georgia in the Athlon Sports SEC preview magazine:

“They took a huge leap last year. When they came on the field, you could tell that their bodies had changed from 2016 to 2017 — also their mindset and confidence. When they walked onto the field, they just looked like a championship football team… The East is somewhat down, but for them to be as dominant as they were for most of the year, that was impressive… I think Jake Fromm is a baller. I don’t know what ‘it’ is but, he’s got it. All year, we heard from everyone, ‘They are just running the ball. When they get into a real game, he won’t be able to to pass.’ Well, to the best of my observation, every time he was asked to do it, he stepped up, whether it was the SEC Championship Game or three quarters of the National Championship Game… I think it will be interesting this year, with what Fromm did last year, and then them bringing in Justin Fields, because some people believe Fields in a once-a-generation talent. I think that will be an interesting competition in to watch in camp… They are going to run away with the East. Nobody is close to them right now.”

While just as high on the Bulldogs as the previous comments, this coach suggests Kirby Smart could have potentially set his offense back by moving Jim Chaney away from his duties coaching the team’s quarterbacks and to tight ends. UGA fans may not appreciate those comments, but the ones about the team’s defense are likely to please.

These comments from the Lindy’s Sports 2018 SEC preview magazine:

“If Jake Fromm doesn’t improve, you can blame Kirby Smart for moving Jim Chaney to tight end. Chaney did a helluva job with Fromm last year. But Kirby Smart is a mad scientist. He has to experiment… I don’t think Georgia took that big of a hit on defense. They lost Roquan Smith but the rest of those guys were OK players; they weren’t superstars. I aint’ buying that they lost that much on defense… Nobody’s going to match the tandem of Nick Chubb and Sony Michel, but D’Andre Swift is special. He has size, speed, a burst, vision, hands, toughness. And they’ve got Elijah Holyfield and they signed a great running back (Zamir White). I’m not sleeping on Georgia. They’ve still got players.”
