The Georgia Bulldogs signed one of the best players in the entire 2018 recruiting class in dual-threat QB Justin Fields.

In Saturday’s easy win over Austin Peay, Fields saw his first game action for the Dawgs, and he was impressive.

In fact, he was so impressive that when former Georgia head coach Jim Donnan joined “Stanford Steve and the Bear” on ESPN Radio this week, he called Fields “a generational talent” (via 247Sports):

“I think the biggest issue there is going to be solved because this guy is a generational talent,” Donnan said. “He might mess up a little bit, but I think he is the kind of guy who can take over a game very quickly with his athleticism and his arm. And the fact that Jake is such a good kid that he does not let this bother him. He has really responded well and had a great fall camp with the competition. I think it has helped both of them develop. I don’t like musical chairs at quarterback, but this is an interesting situation, kind of like the one at Clemson with Trevor Lawrence. These two quarterbacks were within 15 miles of each other in the state of Georgia, last year, No. 1 and No. 2 quarterbacks in the country as far as the freshmen coming in. Both of them are playing right away on teams that have good quarterbacks.”

Jake Fromm is the unquestioned starter for the Bulldogs, but it’ll be interesting to see how much Kirby Smart uses Fields in a hostile environment in South Carolina this weekend.
