Georgia head coach Kirby Smart signed a long-term deal that will pay more than $100 million for the length of the contract, the University of Georgia Athletics announced.

The extension happened six months after Georgia won its first national championship since 1981. Smart will earn more than $10 million annually in his new deal. The deal will have Smart under contract until 2031. In the deal’s first year, Georgia will pay Smart $10.25 million. The deal will reach up to $12.25 million in 2031.

Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks commented on Smart’s extension:

“Coach Smart’s impact on the University of Georgia extends far past his significant accolades as our head football coach,” Brooks said. “He and his wife are Bulldogs through and through, and it is evident that Athens and UGA mean as much to him as he means to us. I am excited for our football program’s continued success under his direction.  The future of Georgia Football remains bright with Coach Smart as its steadfast leader.”

Smart became Georgia’s head coach in 2016 and he helped Georgia win the SEC Championship in 2017. His record at Georgia is 66-15. Georgia has appeared in the College Football Playoff twice and made a New Year’s Six bowl every season since 2017.

With the new contract, Smart will be Georgia’s longest tenured head coach since Mark Richt and Vince Dooley.
