For the first time in Georgia football history, the Bulldogs had three first-round NFL Draft selections Thursday night.

Former standout linebacker Roquan Smith got the Bulldogs’ party started. The Bears took Smith with the No. 8 overall pick, the highest of any SEC player on the night. Smith reunites with former teammate Leonard Floyd in Chicago on what should be a very good defense.

Next, OL Isaiah Wynn was picked No. 23 overall by the New England Patriots, the first of their two Bulldogs selections. Wynn reunites with former UGA center David Andrews on the Patriots’ offensive line.

Finally, former running back Sony Michel was drafted by the Patriots with the No. 31 overall pick. There are some health concerns about Michel, but there’s little doubt (if he can stay healthy) that he’ll make an impact immediately. Michel compares favorably to Saints Offensive Rookie of the Year (and former Tennessee back) Alvin Kamara.

While Georgia had a big night on the national stage, the Bulldogs finished behind Alabama (four) for the most SEC picks in the first round.
