For the first time in his college career, Jake Fromm won’t be playing for Jim Chaney next season. The two had a great teacher-student relationship that resulted in two great seasons on the field but entering his third spring practice in Athens, Georgia’s junior signal caller admits he’s never been more comfortable in the team’s offense entering 2019.

With Chaney off to Tennessee, Kirby Smart promoted co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach James Coley to full-time offensive coordinator. Despite the offensive changeover in Athens, Fromm says this offseason, the proverbial light seems to have turned on for the majority of Georgia’s upperclassmen.

Here is what Fromm had to say about his comfort level entering in his third season in Athens.

“Definitely know exactly what’s going on, even more than I did last year. Things have slowed down. Definitely feel like the weight room and the whole offseason program are just getting easier,” Fromm said during his Tuesday media availability. “I was talking to a lot of guys in my class and the senior class saying, ‘Hey, am I the only one that feels like this is getting easier? Or is this a thing?’ They say yeah, I feel great.

“We are not just surviving through the workouts, we are actually thriving through them. We are getting a lot better through them and really know what’s going on in the whole offense. Being able to actually input stuff during meetings, not just ask the what and how but ask why and really get into some detail about what’s going on in football.”

When it comes to the team’s offense under Coley, based on Fromm’s recent comments, don’t expect a major change on his side of the ball this season.

“A lot of similar things are going on and it’s good for both of us,” Fromm noted. “For me, it’s great to learn some new stuff, too, keep me on my toes. I love to learn anything about football really intrigues me so I’m excited about what’s going on in that room. Can’t wait to get better in the spring.”

Georgia lost a ton of production this offseason all around Fromm but with an offensive line that should be the league’s best and plenty of talent remaining at every skill position in Athens, don’t expect much — if any — drop off from this unit considering Fromm’s experience and handle on his unit.
