Jamie Newman issues statement announcing his decision to opt-out, begin preparation for 2021 NFL Draft

The reports from Athens are true, Jamie Newman has opted out for the upcoming season and has no plans on suiting up for the Bulldogs in 2021.

The senior quarterback confirmed the news on Wednesday by issuing a statement expressing his gratitude to Kirby Smart and the Georgia program.

The former Wake Forest quarterback transferred into Georgia this offseason and immediately received praise as a potential Heisman Trophy contender in Georgia’s new offense.

Now, following the addition of USC transfer JT Daniels, the Bulldogs will be forced to go back to the drawing board when it comes to picking a starting signal-caller for the upcoming season.

During his three seasons at Wake Forest, Newman completed 60.5 percent of his passes for 3,959 yards with a touchdown to interception ratio of 35-16. He also rushed for 826 yards and 10 scores.
