The Georgia Bulldogs are likely going to lose 5-star QB Justin Fields, who is currently exploring transfer options.

However, coach Kirby Smart said on Wednesday that the team isn’t giving up and would love to have Fields back in 2019 and beyond.

The Dawgs still have a chance to make their move, though. According to Smart, Fields still wants to play in the Sugar Bowl, and the Bulldogs are happy to honor that request (via DawgNation):

“He decided he wanted to play in the Sugar Bowl, and I told him ‘absolutely, we want you there,’ ” Smart said Wednesday night. “Justin is working extremely hard, he’s in the meeting rooms, he’s still rolling with our twos. I’m pleased with his work and demeanor, he has had good reps.”

If Fields does want to play, then it’s good that Smart is willing to let him stay around the team. However, it sounds like he doesn’t want to be a backup anymore, and that may mean there’s nothing the Bulldogs can do to get him to stay.

We’ll see how much Fields plays in the Sugar Bowl, and whether that changes his decision or not.
