Kirby Smart getting criticized during first half of Georgia-Florida game
By Keith Farner
Published:
Georgia got off to a slow start with an intentional grounding penalty against Stetson Bennett, and then a missed field goal attempt early in the game.
That was the most positive drive for either team in the first quarter, as they otherwise traded punts, and the defenses bottled up any chance of a big play. Florida also had a missed field goal attempt to close the first quarter.
Besides the offensive struggles, Georgia coach Kirby Smart faced criticism for his handling of the quarterbacks, and play calls near the goal line. The chorus only grew louder when Bennett threw an interception late in the first half.
Here’s a sampling of some of the critcism:
I hope Georgia losses. Kirby is absolutely clueless when it comes to the QB position. If you think 13 is gonna beat Alabama and Nick Saban you’ve lost your damn mind

I wish Kirby would recruit a QB that looked like Florida’s….

It’s laughable how tight Kirby Smart plays big games. LOL. Horrible goal to go plays there.

We have points (finally) in Jacksonville. Georgia FG breaks scoreless deadlock with Florida at the Cocktail Party.

Kirby Smart has unique ability to just Overthink Damn Everything!
LSU comes out and runs ball up and down the field on Gators and Georgia plays like Frightened Cowards and has ZERO points on the board!
Just the Damn Thing Loose Kirby you Damn Coward! https://t.co/sT6yINoYbG

I have a gut feeling Florida could win today. Kirby Smart used tons of saban principles and Mullen figured out how to scheme against a sabaneese defense. (Don’t hold mr@to this)
