Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs now have a big opening to fill on their coaching staff, as DC Dan Lanning is reportedly leaving for the Oregon head coaching job.

Smart and the Bulldogs are preparing for the College Football Playoff, and Smart issued a statement about the move on Saturday.

In his statement, Smart wishes Lanning and his family the best. He says Lanning will coach with the Dawgs during the Playoff, but Will Muschamp and Glenn Schumann will work as co-defensive coordinators:

What Lanning’s specific role will be remains to be seen, but for now, he has to worry about putting together a 2022 recruiting class for the Ducks ahead of the start of the Early Signing Period on Wednesday.

How will this affect Georgia’s defense against Michigan in the Orange Bowl? We’ll find out on New Year’s Eve!
