About 2 weeks after Georgia coach Kirby Smart said LSU transfer Arik Gilbert was not practicing with the team, his first in-season press conference revealed Gilbert’s latest status.

“No update other than he’s not with us,” Kirby Smart said Monday. “We’re praying for him each and every day that he can come back healthy.”

Smart previously said Gilbert, who briefly looked into transferring to Florida after he left LSU, was dealing with personal issues.

When he arrived at Georgia, Gilbert switched from tight end to wide receiver, and was expected to be a big part of Georgia’s revamped passing game.

Gilbert last season at LSU was picked to the Freshman All-SEC Team, as voted by the league’s coaches. He started all 8 games in which he played, and caught 35 passes 368 yards and 2 TDs. What’s more, of his 35 catches, 24 resulted in either a first down or a touchdown.
