Georgia will lose outside linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer to Tennessee after the season, where he’ll become the defensive coordinator for Jeremy Pruitt’s staff.

However, he’s staying on Kirby Smart’s Georgia staff through next week’s College Football Playoff title game, so the Bulldogs will have a full staff for the big game.

When Sherrer leaves, though, Smart has his replacement lined up, confirming on Tuesday during a CFP teleconference that Memphis LB coach Dan Lanning would take over following the title game (via Macon.com):

Smart said on a teleconference Tuesday that he hired Memphis inside linebackers coach Dan Lanning to replace Kevin Sherrer. Lanning will take over the position after Georgia’s College Football Playoff National Championship Game matchup with Alabama.

Interestingly, Sherrer’s future boss is also currently occupied, as he’s serving as Alabama’s defensive coordinator next week as well.

One of those coaches will have some serious bragging rights at this time next week, though.
