Kirby Smart’s father Sonny Smart admitted to New Orleans hospital after fall

Kirby Smart’s family is dealing with more than just the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.
UGA Sports publisher Radi Nabulsi reports that Sonny Smart, Kirby’s father, has been hospitalized after suffering a fall in New Orleans. Sonny is expected to have hip surgery.

Kirby Smart is dealing with quite a lot on Wednesday.
The Georgia football team woke up to the tragic news that 10 people were killed and dozens more were injured in a suspected terrorist attack on Bourbon Street. The Bulldogs went on lockdown at the team hotel in New Orleans to avoid any safety concerns.
While officials originally planned to hold the Sugar Bowl game as scheduled, the College Football Playoff quarterfinal clash was postponed to Thursday.
The postponement was not without issue. At a press conference, it was announced as a 24-hour postponement to an 8:45 p.m. ET kickoff. Georgia and Notre Dame, however, lobbied for an earlier kickoff time, citing schedule and rest concerns.
The game has been moved to a 4 p.m. ET. A distracted Smart will try to lead the Dawgs to the CFP semifinals for a showdown with Penn State in the Orange Bowl.
