Following the end of Georgia’s College Football Playoff run next week, assistant Kevin Sherrer will leave to join Jeremy Pruitt’s Tennessee staff.

That left the Bulldogs with an opening at linebacker coach, and it appears they’ve made a hire.

According to FootballScoop.com, the Bulldogs have landed Memphis assistant Dan Lanning, who previously worked with Kirby Smart at Alabama:

Sources tell FootballScoop Memphis inside linebackers coach / recruiting coordinator Dan Lanning has agreed to join Kirby Smart’s staff at Georgia. We expect Lanning to coach outside linebackers at Georgia. Sources tell FootballScoop Lanning was offered multiple group of 5 defensive coordinator positions over the past few weeks. Lanning previously worked with Kirby Smart, Glenn Schumann, Mel Tucker and crew at Alabama in the 2015 season. Lanning also previously worked at Pitt, Arizona State and Sam Houston State.

Now that the Bulldogs have advanced to the national championship game, it will be interesting to see when they decide to make the news official.

However, it does appear they have their man. Now, they’ll focus in on the national championship game in Atlanta next Monday.
