New England Patriots running back Sony Michel had surgery in May to repair a foot injury, according to ESPN. The surgery was described as “maintenance-based.”

This marks the second time that Michel has had surgery while playing with the Patriots. The previous surgery came last June for a knee scope. Although he’s been injured multiple times during his short career, Michel has only missed 3 games with New England.

The former Georgia Bulldogs running back has led the Patriots in rushing his first 2 years. In 2019, he recorded 912 yards and 7 rushing touchdowns. In 2018, he recorded 931 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns while helping the Patriots win the Super Bowl.

The Patriots selected Michel with the No. 31 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

New England is scheduled to return to training camp in July; however, Michel could start camp on the physically unable to perform list depending on how his rehabilitation goes.
