Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams are still weighing their options with Stetson Bennett, but the head coach did not have much insight to offer.

On Thursday, McVay held a video press conference as the Rams head into the heart of the NFL offseason. The NFL Combine is next week, and teams will visit the event before preparing for the NFL Draft and free agency down the road.

McVay was asked about the situation involving Bennett, the former Georgia quarterback who the Rams selected in the 4th round of last year’s draft. He won the backup QB job to Matt Stafford in the preseason but was placed on the non-football injury list in September.

As for the next steps in the process, McVay said the team will reconnect with Bennett and figure out if it’s best for Bennett and the team to bring the QB back into the infrastructure:

“The first thing is to connect with him. We’ll do that and the appropriate time and figure out where are you at and is something that we feel like is best for him and best for our football team to bring him back into this ecosystem,” said McVay.

“Those will be conversations that we will have, and then once we have a better idea of what we’ll do with that, that will give clarity. You do make sure that right now, we have Matthew Stafford and really in our minds we don’t have a backup QB on our roster. We’ll see what that looks like in terms of how that affects Stetson, the draft and free agency.”

McVay’s update does not sound incredibly optimistic, but the Rams still have refrained from discussing many details openly. In January, McVay said he felt Bennett was “doing better” but did not have enough details “to answer that accurately.”

Bennett boosted his NFL stock at Georgia as the starting QB in back-to-back national title runs for the Bulldogs. It initially appeared he had landed in a good position to begin his NFL career with a chance to learn behind Stafford, but that went off the rails in September.

We’ll see if there is a path back to the Rams for Bennett down the road. Here is McVay’s press conference with the comments on Bennett beginning around the 13-minute mark:
