Stetson Bennett is one of the more polarizing quarterbacks in college football. It’s easy to make the argument that he did play a big role in not only leading Georgia to a national championship, but also getting the victory. That’s the side of the spectrum some analysts like Aaron Murray, who played quarterback for Georgia himself, tend to lean toward.

But there’s also the notion that sometimes Bennett’s decision-making endangered Georgia’s postseason chances of getting wins and that there were times the team won almost entirely from the defense cancelling out the offense’s mistakes. One anonymous coach mentioned in a recent article from Athlon Sports indicated a lack of confidence in Bennett.

“The quarterback is back, but one of the worst things that can happen after a successful season or a title run is when a good-but-not-great QB comes back,” he said. “Everyone is expecting an advancement that might not be possible. Remember, there were times last season they won in spite of this offense.”

Bennett had some highs and lows last season and could be on a better path with the opportunity to get a higher amount of reps under his belt this offseason that he wasn’t able to last year.

Bennett finished out the 2021 season with a 64.5% completion rate, 2,862 passing yards, 29 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. It’s reasonable to expect he could play more of a conservative, game-manager type of role, but he’s shown the ability to make things happen with his legs and could gain a lot better public perception if he can cut down on some of the decision-making problems that rear their head at certain times.
