Georgia kicker Jack Podlesny had his most memorable moment as a Bulldog on New Year’s Day, kicking the winning field goal as the Bulldogs took down Cincinnati in the 2021 Peach Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The St. Simons Island, Ga. native had walked on to the team prior to the 2018 season before redshirting and sitting behind Rodrigo Blankenship on the depth chart. After his first year as the team’s kicker, he made 13 of his 16 field goals and nailed all 38 of his extra-point attempts en route to being named a Lou Groza Award semifinalist.

During a media session on Thursday, the junior—named to the Groza Award watch list for a 2nd straight season—revealed that he is now on scholarship and was put on scholarship last year. As Seth Emerson notes, it’s similar to the path Podlesny’s predecessor took upon his arrival to the program.

We’ll see what role Podlesny has to play in the Dawgs’ big season opener against the Clemson Tigers at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on Sep. 4.
