Fresh off the Georgia Bulldogs being ranked No. 1 in the College Football Playoff rankings, they returned to the field Saturday against South Carolina.

And to potentially ease the pressure of being ranked No. 1, Kirby Smart and his staff called an interesting play on the first play … an onside kick.

South Carolina was set to receive the kickoff, and UGA kicker Rodrigo Blankenship booted an onside kick that was recovered by the Gamecocks.

It gave South Carolina great field position to start the game, but UGA’s defense stepped up. The Gamecocks eventually missed a 46-yard field goal.

Sure, the Gamecocks had nothing to show for it, but that’s a very bold call to start off the game against a solid conference opponent.
