What might have been? Georgia fans can't help but think of Justin Fields watching Florida game
Aside from Mark Richt, the name that regularly comes up from Georgia fans when the Bulldogs struggle, especially on offense is Ohio State QB Justin Fields, the Georgia transfer who was on the same roster with Jake Fromm.
As Georgia struggled on offense against Florida on Saturday and eventually replaced Stetson Bennett with D’Wan Mathis, Fields’ name again surfaced on social media. Bennett was 5-for-16 for 78 yards with a touchdown and interception when Mathis came in during the third quarter.
Fields is leading the Buckeyes into College Football Playoff contention, and completing 87 percent of his passes entering Saturday’s game with Rutgers. In two games, Fields has passed for 594 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions.
Here’s a sampling of the reaction:
The head coach’s job is to identify the best players. Justin Fields is LIGHT YEARS better than any QB in this program’s history, let alone Fromm. 2017 has me bearing on 2018 and beyond. Kirby likes safe. Period.

I know Kirby kicking himself for letting Justin Fields walk

Letting Justin fields go for jake Fromm was top tier stupidity i know Kirby smart wish he can have that decision back.

Kirby Smarts entire coaching career will be summarized by letting Justin Fields leave

This Georgia team would be unstoppable with a quarterback like … Justin Fields …

#Georgia fans still feel like trolling @justnfields today or nah? https://t.co/xvpEgdn6ke pic.twitter.com/5WaKIwlB9G

How mad is Georgia right now that they started Jake Fromm over Justin Fields?

Do you think Kirby Smart tries to avoid seeing a single highlight of Justin Fields? I know we’re beating a dead horse now, but I just can’t get it. Unbelievable. Georgia’s QB is a former walk-on named Stetson Bennett III.

I wonder if Justin Fields would have started for Georgia this year.

The day Justin Fields committed to Georgia, kirby should have told fromm to transfer….
This is all on him— BJ (@southside_BJ) November 7, 2020
Just thinking about how Justin Fields could be playing qb for Georgia right now pic.twitter.com/bDluH0HIO7

If only they had Newman, how did Georgia let him get away
Lol
I feel like this is an article every week..
Keith loves them Justin Fields and Gary Danielson articles.
Vandagriff better start as a true frosh next yr.
The gators were able to win with a game manager, Georgia is fine with their stacked QB room. Beck is Mr. Florida!
As much as I’m enjoying the win over UGA, I don’t believe I’d be celebrating if Fields were the QB. Dawgs had wide open receivers several times this game that would have been big gains and/or TDs with a competent QB.
Glad Kirby screwed it up…
Nice win steak of 1. Fromm owned UF and Grantham.
Since Fromm didn’t play today your comment is a moot point.
Why does anyone assume that Fields would be as good as his is at OSU if he stayed in Georgia? OSU developed him. Heck, OSU let Joe Burrow go because he wasn’t good enough. Liberty is 7-0 with a QB that Auburn let go. Lots of talent on all teams. Not all start as 5 star. The winning teams develop their talent to maximize their skills and develop offensive and defensive strategies based on what they have. I remember when Spurrier went to USC. Of course he didn’t play the run and gun offense and switched to a run based offense and a great defense. When asked why, he told them that he had to create a team based on the talent that he could recruit. Kirby is trying to mold a team based on what he wants them to be, not what they are. Auburn is another great example of that.
