John Calipari, Kentucky president and AD respond following report linking current, former players to FBI investigation
Kentucky fans’ worst nightmare became a reality Friday as members of John Calipari’s UK program have been named as participants of the FBI’s ongoing investigation into college basketball.
While it remains to be seen if anyone employed by Kentucky or its representatives are involved, Yahoo Sports! has named former Wildcat Edrice “Bam” Adebayo and current player Kevin Knox as two players linked to the FBI case.
According to Linda Blackford of the Lexington Herald-Leader, Kentucky AD Mitch Barnhart claims the school has not been contacted by the FBI but that an internal investigation has begun. The school’s President Eli Capilouto offered up this statement to the board of trustees Friday following the release of the Yahoo! Sports report:
“We learned late last night of a report from Yahoo Sports that provides more details regarding documents related to the federal investigation of potential NCAA violations. We began immediately to conduct our due diligence and we will cooperate fully with any appropriate authorities. That is our commitment as a university to our Board of Trustees and to the Commonwealth.”
Calipari has also released a statement Friday morning following the release of the report:
