Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops undergoes offseason surgery, per report
Kentucky coach Mark Stoops had ankle surgery this week, according to a report.
That news was first shared by WKYT in Lexington on Wednesday morning. Per the report, Stoops underwent an “ankle replacement procedure” and is hoping to return to work “as soon as possible.”
The report also said the surgery caused Stoops to miss Tim Couch’s induction into the College Football Hall of Fame this week.
The Wildcats went just 4-8 this season, so they have no bowl game to prepare for. It was Kentucky’s worst win/loss record in a single campaign since Stoops’ first season way back in 2013. This season also snapped a streak of 8 consecutive bowl game appearances for the Wildcats.
Kentucky will be hoping to have a much better season in 2025. The Wildcats haven’t missed the postseason in back-to-back years since 2014-15. Stoops has guided Kentucky to a pair of 10-win seasons over that time frame as well.
Kentucky and the rest of the SEC will learn details for its 2025 schedule on Wednesday evening.
