Kentucky will be without running back Chris Rodriguez’s backup for the remainder of the season.

According to Kentucky Sports Radio’s Matt Jones, Ramon Jefferson has suffered a torn ACL and could miss the remainder of the season.

“He is likely to miss the season but will try to rehab for faster recovery,” Jones tweeted on Tuesday. “He may also ask [the] NCAA for another year.”

The news comes after Mark Stoops on Monday originally stated that Jefferson would be out “for the foreseeable future”, but didn’t go into detail about the injury. Rodriguez, who missed the season opener against Miami of Ohio, will miss the next game against Florida as well due to suspension.

Jefferson was a graduate transfer with 1 remaining year of eligibility. He came to the Wildcats from Sam Houston State, where he totaled over 1,900 yards in 2 seasons. In the spring of 2021, he was an all-conference performer as he ran for 752 yards and 6 touchdowns, helping the Bearkats to the FCS national championship.

Prior to his time at Sam Houston State, Jefferson played JUCO ball at Garden City Community College for a season. That followed the start of his college football career at Maine, where his offensive coordinator was Liam Coen, now with the Los Angeles Rams.

Kentucky visits Florida on Saturday.
