Kentucky, like several other teams, is waiting on a decision in a transfer case that involves one of its players. QB Joey Gatewood is waiting be cleared to play following his transfer from Auburn, who the Wildcats happen to play this week.

Mark Stoops shared the latest information and feelings he has about the situation on the SEC coaches media teleconference on Wednesday.

“So in our conference, definitely is a factor, you know with transfer from one SEC school to another is, probably the hold up well,” Stoops said. “I know it’s the holdup because we’ve already gotten word from the NCAA but we are waiting to hear back from the SEC. I feel good about it. I understand… every situation is different. I think sometimes people want to group it together but that’s not always the case.”

Gatewood’s availability would add another wrinkle to the UK offense set to be led by QB Terry Wilson, who is back from injury this season.

Gatewood in his Auburn career totaled 176 rushing yards on 32 carries with three touchdowns, and completed 5 of 8 passes for 54 yards and two touchdowns in eight career games for the Tigers.

Without Gatewood, 3-star freshman Beau Allen was listed as Wilson’s backup on Kentucky’s official depth chart that was released Monday morning.
