Brian Kelly appears to be adding someone with the closest of ties to his initial staff at LSU.

According to FootballScoop, Kelly has hired his son, Patrick, to a “support staff role”. Patrick Kelly has already gotten his feet wet in the coaching world as he was a student assistant at Grand Valley State, where his father was the head coach from 1991-2003 and was an assistant for 4 seasons prior to that.

In addition, Brian Kelly has reportedly lured one of his administrative staff members from Notre Dame. Beth Rex has been the Fighting Irish’s director of football administration since 2010, joining the program from Cincinnati after 2 years in a similar role on Kelly’s staff there.

“Rex, per sources, is expected to serve in a senior role within Kelly’s LSU administrative team,” writes FootballScoop’s John Brice.

Kelly was 92-39 at Notre Dame. Despite the 11-1 Fighting Irish still having a chance to qualify for the College Football Playoff, it won’t be Kelly coaching them if they do end up in the Top 4.
