Brian Kelly has just a few weeks to name a quarterback ahead of LSU’s Sept. 4 matchup against Florida State. With the departure of Myles Brennan, junior Arizona State transfer Jayden Daniels and redshirt freshman Garrett Nussmeier to battle for the starting job.

Kelly gave his thoughts on the battle after practice Wednesday.

“In particular I thought the ball came out of Daniels hand really well today, especially off the RPOs. It was accurate,” Kelly said, via Sam Gillenwater of On3 Sports. “I thought (Nussmeier) made some really good reads off of zone read action, which has been one of the things that we’ve been working on. So, in particular, those two things (stuck out) for each one of them.”

As of now, it seems to be a dead heat for the starting job. Nussmeier played spot duty for the Tigers last season, while Daniels threw for 2, 380 yards, 10 touchdowns and 10 interceptions for the Sun Devils last year.
