Bryce Underwood, nation's top prospect, reportedly flipping away from LSU
Bryce Underwood, the nation’s No. 1 prospect and a 5-star quarterback in the class of 2025, is reportedly flipping his commitment away from Brian Kelly’s LSU program.
Long viewed as the best player available this cycle, Underwood is the top player out of Michigan via Belleville High School. He committed to LSU in January, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Underwood informed the Wolverines on Thursday that he will flip to Sherrone Moore’s program.
Breaking: Bryce Underwood, ESPN’s No. 1 overall recruit in the Class of 2025, is flipping his commitment to the Michigan Wolverines, he told school officials today.

With the move, Underwood immediately becomes the highest-ranked prospect in UM history. It’s a massive win for Moore, but it throws Kelly into even bigger questions after a massively disappointing season for LSU.
While the situation in Baton Rouge will be something to monitor, the angle for Michigan is massive. Moore’s team has struggled in his first full season as the head coach in Ann Arbor, but the struggles were heavily related to the offensive side of the ball.
Michigan rotated 3 separated starting quarterbacks this season, and each one was severely limited or struggled in key moments. As a result, the Wolverines are 118th nationally while averaging 20.4 points per game and must win one of the final two games to reach a bowl game.
Underwood presents a marquee prospect to help engineer an offensive turnaround for UM, and it’s likely the Wolverines had to offer up a massive NIL package to make the move happen. We’ll see how it all works out this time next year and in the seasons to come.
The Curse of Orgeron is long and strong.
It permeates all.
It reveals itself in a myriad of ways.
As much as I hate Ohio State, thank you for paving the way showing money does by elite talent. If Michigan can get Derek Meadows to flip from LSU, Kelly is cooked. Go Blue.
Cheaters never prosper.
Voltrain, there’s a great line from the 1950s novel, “The Mouse That Roared,” which is, “The pen is mightier than the sword, but the sword is stronger at any given moment.”
Cheaters can prosper in the short run.
Underwood is from Michigan so it does make sense for him to stay.
I think it has more to do with the $10.5 million NIL bag dropped on him by the CEO of barstool sports
LSU could have matched/beat that.
I personally don’t think any player is worth $10 million so I’m on LSU’s side
The Wolverines are fortunate to have a money mark bankroll their team like Phil Knight is doing with Oregon
“I personally don’t think any player is worth $10 million so I’m on LSU’s side”
100000000% agree with you.
IDK, $10mil or whatever close to that they promised is hard to compete with. We have other players that deserve a share. That’s why UM has 1 5star. Plus hometown kid
“I think it has more to do with the $10.5 million”
Dang that is a lot of money.
There will probably be a quality QB available in the portal for a heck of a lot less.
And you have tape on his game against higher competition. Better bang for the buck. Example-JD5
The NCAA has got to get a hold of this NIL before it destroys the sport…there has to be a limit placed somewhere or we will continue to see the same wealthy teams accumulate all the “best” players and the sport will be shot…
LSU is much better off shoping the portal. Chances are this kid wont even be at UM by the time he actually lives up to his 5 star status, if he ever does! Wasnt Gary the number 1 overall prospect when he signed with UM?
Yes and he went first round to the Packers and starts at DL and recently signed a 4 year/96 million dollar extension.. so it worked out for him
I don’t know what the NIL reality is, but the various episodes of Kelly chewing out players and slamming tables probably didn’t help. Results allowed Saban to get away with it. Kelly is not Saban.
Let’s use the honest and correct word. Michigan “BOUGHT” Underwood.
Welcome to the current and poss future of college ball.
No player is worth $10-mil, especially a player who hasn’t even worn a college uniform in a game. Underwood was committed to LSU because he liked the school, coaches and program. He flipped to Michigan only because of money. In my view, I’d say good riddance. He would have likely entered the portal while at LSU anyway. The portal and NIL are ruining college sports.
One positive spin on Underwood’s decommitment is his close ties with Coach Sloan no longer matters. Let’s go out and get a good OC!
