The LSU Tigers had a very disappointing showing in Saturday night’s 37-7 loss to the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Now at 2-1 on the year, the season is far from over for the Tigers, but they have their work cut out for them if they’re going to get back on track.

QB Danny Etling, who threw for only 137 yards on 13-for-29 passing, told The Advocate after the game that he’s going to step up his leadership game moving forward:

“It’s going to start with me. I’m going to bring a level of intensity and energy in practice that I feel like I haven’t been bringing,” Etling said. “Maybe I thought that wasn’t my role on this team, was to sit back and let things kind of happen. It’s time to go, time for me to step up and be a leader.”

The Tigers have a couple of weeks to get things sorted out, as they play Syracuse and Troy in their next two games.

Then, though, they play at Florida, host Auburn, play at Ole Miss and at Alabama in the four weeks after that.

If Etling and the rest of his LSU teammates can’t find some answers in a hurry, it could turn into a long year in Baton Rouge.
