Ed Orgeron has liked much of what QB Max Johnson has done over the first 2 weeks of the season.

The LSU quarterback has completed 60 percent of his passes for 491 yards with 6 touchdowns and an interception. During his weekly appearance on “Off the Bench” on ESPN Baton Rouge, Orgeron evaluated how Johnson has done so far this season.

“I really think he improved, he missed a couple of throws,” Orgeron said of the Mercer game from the UCLA opener. “Missed a couple reads, still holding on to the ball a little bit too long. But again that’s coaching, what we ask him to do is simplify things, but we still need to take things off his plate.

Orgeron was also asked about LSU’s “look to the sideline strategy” with getting plays in on offense, and he said changes are coming.

“Yeah, we’ve got to change it,” Orgeron said. “We’re taking too long, we’re giving too much time for defenses to change, and we’re changing the play and they’re changing the play, so obviously that has to be re-tooled, that has to be re-thought on how we’re going to do things.”
