The duo of LSU quarterback Joe Burrow and head coach Ed Orgeron has reached headlines all season not just for going undefeated and reaching the national title game, but also for the bond the two appear to share.

Whether it was Orgeron special-ordering crawfish during a recruiting visit, or Burrow’s emotional words to his head coach during his Heisman acceptance speech, it has been one of the most well-documented player-coach relationships in recent college football history.

Orgeron continued the high praise of his quarterback during a press conference at the College Football Playoff National Championship on Sunday.

“I’ve never been around a player like Joe” said Orgeron, “and obviously he’s very talented and he’s a leader, but day in and day out, he’s the same guy. Very focused, focused on the task at hand. It’s about execution and winning and being great.

“Last game he threw, what, eight touchdowns, and he wasn’t satisfied. I mean, that’s him. And you go out to practice, and I’ll ask him, how’s it going? I’ll go to pass rush and I’ll come to 7-on-7, how’s it going, Joe? And rarely does he tell me everything is fine.

“The guy is a perfectionist. It does rub off on our football team. He’s an outstanding leader.”

This has been Burrow’s attitude all season long, quick to deflect to the next challenge after reaching another milestone.

While LSU fans certainly hope that will translate to a championship, Burrow’s name will be cemented as an LSU legend regardless of what happens in New Orleans on Monday night.
