LSU took the field in Tiger Stadium this weekend for the team’s second scrimmage of training camp in Baton Rouge and following the action, Ed Orgeron shared some takeaways he had from his team’s latest showing on the field.

“A lot of improvement. The offense came out, had a great physical attitude today, they ran the ball. They scored on a lot of their possessions,” Orgeron said. “Defense caused three turnovers, which is good for the defense, not good for the offense. I thought both groups fought very well, a lot of guys played a lot of guys did well.”

When asked about the freshmen class of Tigers the program signed this offseason, the LSU coach noted there are several impact players on the roster from the freshmen class.

“Yeah, look the quarterbacks. Both quarterbacks, they’ve both made tremendous improvement since the spring. Both of them are going to be excellent players for us,” Orgeron added. “We got some great defensive linemen, we got some big-time offensive linemen – it all starts on the trenches.

“You got two freshmen probably going to start in Arik Gilbert and Kayshon Boutte, so they have been very, very productive.”

LSU is set to open the season on Saturday, Sept. 26 against Mississippi State in Tiger Stadium.
