LSU coach Ed Orgeron said this week’s game against Florida is why players come to LSU, and combine the ranking with the night kickoff, and it expects to be a memorable affair.

The coaching staffs are familiar with one another from Dan Mullen and defensive coordinator Todd Grantham being at Mississippi State, and that’s one piece of video Orgeron said the LSU staff watched, the game two years ago.

Orgeron during his regular weekly press conference noted several keys to the game:

“I don’t think it’s going to come down to pass rush against this team,” he said, “I think it’s going to come down to stopping the run. Going against them, it’s nothing fancy, it’s about winning the one-on-one matchups and I think that’s what we have to do.”

He was asked about Florida not blitzing as much in recent games as in the past, but said, “this is by far the best pass rush we’ve seen. He called Grantham one of the best defensive coaches in football.

“He’s an outstanding defensive line coach, he knows how to blitz, how to attack and has done a tremendous job everywhere he’s been. I’ve known him for a long time.”

Orgeron also noted how it was a physical game last year. Florida had 11 tackles for a loss and five sacks last season in Gainesville. “We have to be prepared for everything, but the biggest thing that we have to do in practice is simulate the speed of their defensive line, so we’re going to put our fastest guys on the rush team and rush our guys.”

“Dan (Mullen) is a big formation guy.” Orgeron said Mullen is great at seeing how a defense lines up and going where the defense isn’t. “That’s going to be a key for us this week.” In the past, Mullen’s teams have run the speed option and quarterback throwback against LSU for success and Orgeron said it’s about being in position to make plays.

On the crowd noise from last year’s game, Orgeron said, “I wish I could say it didn’t affect us, but it did. I know our crowd will be primed and ready to go.” He added that LSU’s crowd last year against Georgia was a factor in the game, and the Tigers need a similar effort this week.

Orgeron said Badara Traore is out this week with an injury, and Charles Turner should be “OK.” He added that LSU has depth with Ed Ingram back and Chasen Hines as backup center. “We have a little bit more depth than people think.”

He expects Neil Farrell to start in this game for Glen Logan, who will be limited, at defensive end. Rashard Lawrence will practice, “hopefully” will play this week. Orgeron says he hopes to gets Michael Divinity back this week, “hopefully he can rush again.” Saahdiq Charles will play this week. Didn’t play last week because of a “coach’s decision.”
