ESPN expert explains what LSU fans should expect from new QB Jayden Daniels

LSU landed a key piece for the 2022 season recently, as former Arizona State QB Jayden Daniels announced he was heading to Baton Rouge this fall.

Now, he’ll compete with Myles Brennan and Garrett Nussmeier for the Tigers’ starting job this year.

So, what should fans expect? ESPN’s Pete Thamel appeared on “The Paul Finebaum Show” on Monday and broke down what he thinks of Daniels’ decision:

“I think it’s one of the most-intriguing quarterback transfers to come this past offseason,” Thamel said. “Jayden Daniels doesn’t have the cachet, maybe, of a Caleb Williams, but there aren’t many quarterbacks in the country who went in the portal who have had more production than Jayden Daniels.”

Will Daniels end up winning the starting job? The LSU QB battle suddenly got very interesting this spring.

  • What to expect from Jayden Daniels?

I would ask LSU fans, "Did you ever watch Emory Jones play football last season?"

  • Production? The guy is averaging about 16 TDs a year, running and passing, and for every 3 TDs he throws, he throws an INT.

    • It's fluff season. But I think Daniels is most dangerous and productive with his legs, he's a very athletic runner, not so prolific throwing the ball. But he's athletic enough and experienced enough to say why not? Had he chose Mizzou I think there's a good possibility he may have ended up being switched to a different position, much like Shawn Robinson was. Could be what LSU does as well, idk.

      • Well in 3 seasons he has only scored 13 TDs with his legs, so he better get a move on.

    • He'll have better, more talented teammates to work with. Give him LSUs players at ASU and he may have been a Heisman contender or winner.

  • I suspect that Daniels will be the backup for Miles Brennan to start the season. My bet is that Brennan starts as long as he remains healthy. He has considerable talent and experience throwing to LSU's returning receivers.

  • My bet is on Brennen winning the starting QB with Daniels winning the backup roles. Howard will be the #3. When the announcements are made, Garrett Nussmeier will enter the portal to find a new home.
I’m ok with that, I see Nussmeier as a loose cannon. Too much of a loose cannon for the SEC. I predict he ends up at Baylor in the BIG12 where his style will fit in nicely.
