Defending national champion LSU enters the 2020 season ranked No. 6 in the preseason Associated Press Top 25. One ESPN analyst thinks Ed Orgeron’s squad is ranked far too high.

“I think they’re way overrated … five starters return,” Andre Ware said during the Eastern Kentucky-Marshall game, per 247Sports. “They won the national championship last year so whoever voted and puts the polls together give them consideration for having done so, but I think that’s way too high for LSU. I may have Texas A&M slotted in that Top 5 and LSU way down the list based on who they return.

“They’ve lost coaches, players … that’s way too high for LSU.”

No one is going to argue Ware’s point that the LSU 2020 squad will hardly resemble the 2019 team. Ware reiterated his point, saying it’s simply too much to lose and still be No. 6 in the country.

“You look at the losses and the talent that has exited … then you replace a quarterback that was kind of your do-it-all and your play-caller is gone,” Ware said. “All of that list tells me that’s not the No. 6-ranked team in the country.”

Coach O will presumably make good use of the bulletin-board material sent the Tigers’ way ahead of the campaign to repeat.
