Derrius Guice’s second season in the NFL isn’t going any better than his first.

The former LSU and current Washington Redskins running back underwent surgery to trim a torn meniscus in his right knee on Thursday, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport. The procedure was performed by Dr. James Andrews, who met with Guice in Pensacola, Fla.

Guice is out indefinitely, per Rapaport. However, ESPN’s Adam Schefter previously reported that if Guice decided to undergo surgery, then he would likely be out six-to-eight weeks.

It’s an unfortunate situation for Guice, who missed all of his rookie season after tearing the ACL in his left knee in the Redskins’ first preseason game of 2018.

This year, Guice played in Washington’s season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, rushing for 18 yards on 10 carries and hauling in three passes for 20 yards.

With Guice out, the Redskins will turn to veteran Adrian Peterson, who was a healthy scratch in Week 1 because the team wanted to have Chris Thompson and Wendell Smallwood back up Guice.

Guice, who played at LSU from 2015-17, was selected by Washington in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft.
