LSU suspended head coach Will Wade on Friday in a move that Greg Sankey has come out and publicly supported.

The Southeastern Conference commissioner released a statement Friday afternoon following LSU’s decision to suspend its head coach with only one game remaining in the regular season. The Tigers are currently tied for the No. 1 spot in the SEC standings with Tennessee.

If you missed the biggest story in the SEC this week, Wade allegedly admitted to making an “offer” to a recruit leading up to that prospect’s commitment to LSU. The FBI has a recording of the call, according to Yahoo! Sports, which was obtained during an FBI investigation into corruption in college basketball.

Following LSU’s decision to suspend Wade indefinitely, Sankey released the following message:

“I support the action of LSU in its suspension of head men’s basketball coach Will Wade. The information in recent news reports is very disturbing, if true. Considering the existing circumstances, LSU has taken appropriate action today while the investigation continues. The SEC serves in an advisory role with our institutions in NCAA compliance issues and Conference Office will continue to assist LSU as it moves forward in this matter.”
