Big news for LSU’s current recruiting class as five-star defensive back  Jacoby Mathews has just announced his decommitment from Ed Orgeron’s program.

“First off, I want to thank the man above and the entire staff at LSU. To all the Tiger fans and commits, it will forever be love whether we get together there or battle on Saturdays,” Mathews posted on Friday morning.

“After deep consideration, my parents and I have thought a lot through and I have decided to decommit from Louisiana State University and re-open my recruitment. Respect it, please and thank you.”

Mathews was one of three five-star prospects committed to LSU in the 2022 recruiting cycle.

The Ponchatoula High School standout from Louisiana is currently rated as the No. 2 safety in the country and a top 30 overall prospect in the class according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Mathews’ decision comes at an interesting time as he is scheduled to visit College Station this weekend for a big recruiting weekend for the Aggies.
