Jeremy Hawkins is returning to the Peach State.

After spending one season in Baton Rouge, LSU’s assistant director of player personnel is reportedly returning to his home state to serve in an on-the-field coach at Mercer. While he is from Americus, Ga., Hawkins played his college football at Troy.

News of Hawkins departure from LSU was first reported by Bruce Feldman of The Athletic. Feldman is reporting that Hawkins will become the defensive line coach for Mercer. Hawkins played at Troy from 2005-2009 and graduated from the school in 2009.

Hawkins was among the number of analysts Ed Orgeron hired during the previous offseason to bolster LSU’s coaching staff. At several times this season, Coach O credited the work of those analysts as well as their contributions to the program while he also praised the LSU administration for allowing him to hire these coaches to add to the football staff in Baton Rouge.
