LSU has an unmatched record for top selections in pro drafts
Barring some unforeseen development, the Cincinnati Bengals are poised to select Joe Burrow with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft on Thursday night.
While that development in of itself would be a ringing endorsement of LSU’s football program, Burrow’s selection at the top of the 2020 NFL Draft would also add to the school’s unmatched record for the school’s overall athletics departments.
According to LSU Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette, LSU is the only school that has sent a top overall pick to drafts in the NFL, NBA, Major League Baseball and the WNBA.
No other athletic program in the country would be able to say the same.
On eve of @Joe_Burrow10 going No. 1 overall in NFL Draft, #LSU is the only school in America that has produced the No. 1 overall pick in the sports of #NFL, #NBA, #MLB, and #WNBA. #LSU and UCLA are the only ones to do it NFL, NBA, & MLB. @LSUfootball @LSUbaseball @LSUBasketball

That looks to be the first of many accomplishments LSU’s football program will be able to claim in the coming days as the Tigers are hoping to break the record for most selections in a single NFL draft by the time the 2020 event concludes on Saturday.
