Justin Jefferson had a Minnesota legend on his mind as he scored the Vikings’ first touchdown of the Monday Night Football game against the Chicago Bears.
Jefferson’s 1st quarter TD catch extended Minnesota’s lead to 10-0 with the extra point. As he celebrated his score, Jefferson shouted out Vikings great Randy Moss.
“We love you, Randy! That’s for you!” Jefferson shouted into the camera from the endzone.
Moss, 47, recently revealed that he had a successful surgery after cancer was found in the bile duct between his liver and pancreas. He has taken a leave of absence from ESPN, where he works as an NFL analyst.
A first-round pick in the 1998 NFL Draft, Moss began his legendary NFL career in Minnesota. He played for the Vikings from 1998-2004, and was one of the best players in the NFL during those years. As a Viking, Moss won NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and was named first-team All-Pro as the NFL’s receiving touchdowns leader in 1998, 2000 and ’03. He is in Minnesota’s Ring of Honor and part of the NFL’s 2000s All-Decade Team and 100th Anniversary All-Time Team.
In total, Moss played 113 games for the Vikings. He recorded 587 receptions on 885 targets for 9,316 yards and 92 touchdowns. Those numbers are just part of his legendary career numbers of 982 receptions for 15,292 yards and 156 touchdowns.
Jefferson entered Monday’s game with some of the most impressive numbers the Vikings have seen since Moss. The LSU great already had 467 catches for 7,069 yards and 37 touchdowns to his name in his first 73 games with the club.
