After star RB Leonard Fournette left LSU following the 2016 season, talented WR D.J. Chark took over the No. 7 jersey and had a great season.

Now, that special number will be worn by another big-time receiver, as former Texas Tech star WR Jonathan Giles has been given that jersey.

LSU announced that Giles, who sat out the 2017 season due to NCAA transfer rules, would wear the special number via Twitter on Monday night:

Giles showed he understands the honor by posting a tweet of other LSU greats to wear the jersey:

As a sophomore at Texas Tech in 2016, Giles caught 69 passes for 1,158 yards and 13 touchdowns. LSU has turned out a number of star receivers in recent years, despite struggles at the quarterback position, so we’ll have to wait and see how the Tigers utilize Giles in 2018.
