Heading into his senior season, LSU QB Danny Etling was the heavy favorite to retain his starting job this fall.
However, true freshman Myles Brennan had a strong summer and made a late push for the QB1 spot.
On Tuesday, though, coach Ed Orgeron made it official, naming Etling the starter for the Week 1 opener against BYU:

Myles Brennan was "a very close second" in the #LSU competition.

Etling threw for 2,123 yards and 11 touchdowns in 11 games last season. The Tigers have loftier expectations for this year, though, so Etling will need to step his game up or LSU may decide to see what Brennan can do under center.
LSU’s Week 1 matchup against BYU will take place in Houston and will kick off at 8:30 p.m. Central time on ESPN.
